Gushi County, a county under the jurisdiction of Xinyang City, Henan Province, is directly under the jurisdiction of Henan Province. It is located at the southeast end of Henan Province, at the junction of Henan and Anhui, bordering Dabie Mountains in the south and Huaihe River in the north, with a total area of 2946 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 3 streets, 19 towns and 11 townships.
As there have been four large-scale population migrations to the south in history, Gushi County has become the origin and concentration place of migration from Central Plains to Fujian and Taiwan, and is known as "the hometown of Tang people, the ancestral place of Fujian and Taiwan" and "the first hometown of overseas Chinese in Central Plains". It is one of the five regional central cities with accelerated development and ten pilot counties for provincial direct management system reform determined by Henan Province. On May 9, 2019, through the special assessment and inspection of Henan Province, Gushi County reached the standard of poverty alleviation and officially withdrew from the poverty county sequence.
