Hohhot, commonly known as Hushi, formerly known as Guisui, is a prefectural city and capital of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, a type II large city, approved by The State Council as the political, economic and cultural center of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and an important central city in the northern border regions of China. The city has jurisdiction over 4 municipal districts, 4 counties and 1 flag, with a total area of 17,200 square kilometers. The built-up area covers an area of 260 square kilometers. In 2021, the city's gross regional product was 312.14 billion yuan, with a permanent population of 3.496 million at the end of 2021. Within the Eurasian continent, it is the central city of the Hubao Hubei urban agglomeration, an important bridge connecting the Yellow River Economic Belt, the Eurasian Land Bridge and the Bohai economic region. It is also an important border opening central city of China to Mongolia and Russia.

Hohhot is a national historical and cultural city, one of the origins of Chinese civilization, has a long history and brilliant culture. In the pre-Qin period, King Wuling of Zhao set up Yunzhong County here, and his site was located in Toketuo County, southwest of today's Hushi City. During the Republic of China, it was the capital of Suiyuan Province. After the merger of Mengsuiyuan, Hohhot became the capital of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Huzhongcheng was originally formed by the merging of Guihua City and Suiyuan City in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, hence the name Gui-Sui. 1954 It was renamed Hohhot, Mongolian meaning "green city".

Hohhot is also a national historical and cultural city, a national forest city, a national innovative pilot city, a national model city of national unity and progress, a national model city of Double support, a Chinese excellent tourism city and a top 100 city of economic strength in China, known as the "Milk Capital of China". In December 2018, it was named the top 100 Best commercial Cities in Mainland China in 2018. On October 23, 2019, it was identified as the "third batch of urban Black and smelly water control demonstration city". In October 2020, it was rated as the national model city (county) of double support.
