The administrative region has an area of arable land of over 32.64 million mu, a comprehensive grain production capacity of 26 billion jin, and a commodity rate of over 90%, making it an important national commodity grain base. In 2021, the city achieved "18 consecutive grain abundance", with a total output of 22.588 billion jin and rice output of 15.1 billion jin, accounting for 1/7 and 1/4 of Heilongjiang Province respectively. The name of Jiamusi originates from the Manchu language "Jiamuke Si Kasan", meaning "station official tun". Located in the border area of China, it is adjacent to the two regional capitals of Khabarovsk and Birobidzhan in Russia's Far East region, and is one of the frontier cities open to Russia. The natural wetland covers an area of more than 600,000 hectares, and there are 2 national and 5 provincial wetland nature reserves, among which Sanjiang Wetland has been listed in the World Wetland Protection List.
