Jinan, also known as Quancheng, is a prefecture-level city, provincial capital, sub-provincial city, megacity and core city of Jinan metropolitan Circle in Shandong Province. It is a central city in the southern wing of Bohai Rim area approved by The State Council. As of 2019, the city has jurisdiction over 10 districts and 2 counties, with a total area of 10,244.45 square kilometers. According to the seventh census, as of November 2020, Jinan's permanent population was 9.202,400.

Jinan is located in East China, the central and western part of Shandong and the southeastern edge of the North China Plain. Its geographical position is between 36°01 '-- 37°32' north latitude and 116°11 '-- 117°44' east longitude. It belongs to the warm temperate continental monsoon climate zone, with obvious monsoon and four distinct seasons. Spring is dry and less rain, summer is warm and rainy, autumn is cool and dry, and winter is cold and less snow. Jinan is an important junction of the army headquarters of the PLA Northern Theater Command, the Bohai Rim Economic Zone and the Beijing-Shanghai economic axis, as well as one of the important transportation hubs in East China.

Jinan has a large number of springs in its territory, with "seventy-two springs" and the reputation of "lotus flowers on all sides and willows on all sides, a city of mountains and half a city of lakes". Jinan is a world-famous tourist city with eight sceneries. It is a famous national historical and cultural city, the first group of outstanding tourist cities in China, and one of the origins of the prehistoric culture -- Longshan Culture. In 2021, the gross domestic product of Jinan was 114.3222 billion yuan, an increase of 7.2% over the previous year based on comparable prices. The value added of the primary industry was 40.88 billion yuan, up by 7.1%; The added value of the secondary industry was 396.41 billion yuan, up by 3.6%; The added value of the tertiary industry was 705.94 billion yuan, up by 9.2%.
