Lianyungang, formerly known as Haizhou, also known as Gangcheng, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province. It is located in the northeast of Jiangsu Province, on the west bank of Haizhou Bay, bordering the Yellow Sea in the east, Xuzhou and Suqian in the west, Huai'an and Yancheng in the south, Rizhao and Linyi in Shandong Province in the north, and has 3 districts and 3 counties under its jurisdiction, with a total area of 7615 square kilometers.

Lianyungang is the eastern bridgehead of the New Eurasian Continental Bridge and a national comprehensive transportation hub, with the advantages of combining sea and land transportation. Lianyungang is one of the first batch of coastal open cities in China, a national demonstration zone for regional cooperation in the East, the West, the East, the West, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and a national civilized city. It is an important part of the China (Jiangsu) Pilot Free Trade Zone.

Lianyungang is the cultural origin of "Mirror Flower" and "Journey to the West", and is famous for "Huaikou Town, a famous county in the East China Sea".

Lianyungang is an excellent tourist city and a national garden city in China. It has tourist attractions such as Huaguo Mountain, Liandao, Kongwang Mountain, Yuntai Mountain on the sea, Dayi Mountain, and Xishuanghu Lake. It is a city with mountains, seas, ports, and cities. It is known as the first scenic spot in the East China Sea. In 2021, Lianyungang will achieve a gross regional product of 372.792 billion yuan, with a permanent resident population of 4.62 million at the end of 2021.

In October 2020, Lianyungang City won the "eight consecutive championships" of the national model city of double support. In 2021, the Outline of the National Comprehensive Three-dimensional Transport Network Planning was issued, and Lianyungang Port was listed as one of the 27 major coastal ports in China, and was officially identified as an international hub seaport.
