Yuxi City, a prefecture-level city administered by Yunnan Province, is located in the central part of Yunnan Province. Its geographical coordinates are between 23°19 'and 24°53' north latitude and 101°16 'and 103°09' east longitude. It borders the provincial capital Kunming in the north, Pu 'er in the southwest, Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture in the southeast, and Chuxiong and Yi Autonomous Prefecture in the northwest. Yuxi covers an area of about 15,000 square kilometers. By 2022, Yuxi has jurisdiction over 2 districts, 1 city, 3 counties and 3 ethnic autonomous counties, with the Municipal Party Committee and municipal government based in Hongta District. According to the seventh census data, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Yuxi city is 2,249,502.

The terrain of Yuxi City is high in the northwest and low in the southeast, with staggered distribution of mountains, canyons, plateauts and basins, with a maximum transverse distance of 172 kilometers and a maximum longitudinal distance of 163.5 kilometers.
