Aksai Kazak Autonomous County, or Aksai County for short, is subordinate to Jiuquan City, Gansu Province, located in the west of the Hexi Corridor in Gansu Province and the northern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The total area is 33400 square kilometers. It is the only ethnic minority autonomous county with Kazak as the main body in Gansu Province, and also one of the three Kazakh autonomous counties in China. According to the data of the seventh population census, as of 0:00 on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Aksai Kazakh Autonomous County was 10970, including 3487 Kazakh people (2020). Kazak is the main minority in Aksai County. By 2020, it has jurisdiction over 1 town and 3 townships.
Aksai Kazakh Autonomous County, named after Aksai Valley, means "pure" or "pure white" in Kazakh language. In 1954, the Aksai Kazakh Autonomous Region was established. In 1959, Aksai Kazakh Autonomous County was restored.
