Anhua County, part of Yiyang City of Hunan Province, is located in the middle reaches of Zijiang River, to the north of central Hunan, and the main belt of the northern section of Xuefeng Mountain. It borders Taojiang and Ningxiang in the east, Lianyuan and Xinhua in the south, Xupu and Yuanling in the west, and Changde and Taoyuan in the north. According to the seventh census, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Anhua county was 780,969.
With a total area of 4950 square kilometers, Anhua is the third largest county in Hunan Province. Its mountainous area reaches 82%, which is a typical mountainous county and reservoir county. It has a woodland area of 5.36 million mu and a forest coverage rate of 76.51%. In 2013, Anhua had jurisdiction over 5 townships and 18 towns.
In ancient times, Anhua was called "Meishan" and was the birthplace of Meishan culture [1]. In the fifth year of Xining (1072), Zhang Dun began to set up Meishan County. Anhua is also home to black tea, a famous Chinese tea, and the starting point of the Hunan Tea Horse Road.
Anhua is a famous county of non-ferrous metals, hydropower resources, forestry resources, tea production and medicinal materials industry in Hunan Province. It has been successively awarded the titles of "Town of Hopu in China", "Town of Badminton", "Town of Bamboo in China", "the most beautiful Town in China", "the Best Health Leisure Tourist Resort in China" and so on. In September 2015, the Implementation Plan of the Hunan Provincial Department of Land and Resources to Promote the Reform of the economic System directly administered by the Province was issued. According to the plan, Anhua County became the pilot county (city) of Hunan Land and Resources Province directly administered county economic system reform. In April 2019, the People's Government of Hunan Province approved Anhua County and 13 other counties and urban areas to lift their poverty targets. On December 6, 2019, it was selected as a pilot unit to promote the quality improvement of farmer cooperatives in the whole county. In 2020, the GDP of Anhua County reached 24.012 billion yuan, an increase of 3.5% over the previous year.
In July 2020, the National Health Care Committee decided to name Anhua County as the 2017-2019 National Health County. On January 29, 2021, it was selected into the list of regions with remarkable achievements in 2020 published by Hunan Provincial People's Government.
