Anxiang County, subordinate to Changde City of Hunan Province, is located in the northwest of Dongting Lake. It is the north gate of Hunan Province, at the junction of four cities and eight counties of Hunan and Hubei provinces. Its geographical coordinates are between 110°59' -112 °18' east longitude and 29°08' -29 °46' north latitude, with a total area of 1087 square kilometers. It belongs to the core circle of Dongting Lake Ecological Economic Zone, and is the only place where the "three mouths" of the Yangtze River (Taiping Estuary, Lotus Pond Estuary and Songzi Estuary) flood and the Lishui water flow into Dongting Lake. As of 2018, Anxiang County has jurisdiction over 8 towns and 4 townships. According to the seventh census, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Anxiang county was 427,412.
