Longnan, a county-level city directly under the jurisdiction of Jiangxi Province, is administered by Ganzhou City. It is located in the southernmost part of Jiangxi Province with a total area of 1646 square kilometers. By the end of 2019, it had jurisdiction over nine towns, five townships and 107 village (residential) committees. According to the seventh census, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, Longnan's permanent population was 319,166.
Longnan County was founded in the eleventh year of Baoda of the Southern Tang Dynasty (953), because the county was located in the south of Longtou Mountain (one hundred Zhangs Longtan, one hundred zhangs Longtan), it was named Longnan, which means "Longxing Lingnan".
