Danjiangkou City, located in the central south of China, the northwest of Hubei Province, the upper reaches of the Han River, Hubei Province under the jurisdiction of Shiyan City. The total area of the city is 3121 square kilometers, under the jurisdiction of 20 towns (office district). It is the core water source area and dam area (Danjiangkou Dam) of the middle route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project. It is also the site of Wudang Mountain, a world cultural heritage site and the sacred site of Chinese Taoism. As of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population was 409,940.
Danjiangkou has a long history and was called Wudang County, Wudang County and Junzhou in ancient times. The Chengdu meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee decided to build the Danjiangkou Dam in 1958. Within the territory of the world cultural heritage, national AAAAA scenic spot -- Wudang Mountain; Danjiangkou Reservoir Scenic Spot, the source of water diversion on the middle route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project and a national scenic spot.
In recent years, it has been awarded the titles of "China Excellent Tourism City", "National Tourism Name Card", "National Martial Arts Town", "National Class A Open City", "China Top 100 Happy Well-off City", "China Top Ten attractive Cities for Development", "China Top 100 Beautiful Cities", "China Top 100 Spring Leisure City", "National Garden City", "National Health City" and "National Civilized City". It was awarded "China's Beautiful Landscape City" in 2019 and "China's Top 100 Counties and Cities in Tourism Competitiveness" for two consecutive years from 2018 to 2019. In 2020, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment awarded the practice and innovation base of "Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets". 2021 "China's Top 100 Counties and Cities in Comprehensive Tourism Competitiveness", ranked 19th. Ranked 53rd in "China's Top 100 Counties and cities with Development Potential" in 2022.
It is known as the "Water Capital of China and Tianchi of Asia". The middle route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, the River Diversion Project for Han Province, and the water diversion project for Northern Hubei Province are located here.
Automobile drive shaft production capacity ranks the second in China, is the country's largest steroid hormone intermediate production base, the only domestic nitrogen and oxygen sensor independent brand enterprise settled here. In 2019, the city achieved a gross regional product of 29.061 billion yuan.
