Fugu County is under Yulin City of Shanxi Province. It is located in the northernmost part of Shanxi Province, bordering Qin, Jin and Mongolia, facing Hequ County and Bade County of Shanxi Province across the river, bordering Zhunge Banner and Ejin Horo Banner of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in the north, and adjacent to Shenmu City in the southwest. It is known as the "three provinces". The total area of the county is 3229 square kilometers. According to the seventh census, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Fugu County was 255,397.

Fugu is rich in natural resources, is an important part of the national energy and chemical base in northern Shanxi, the national "west coal transport to the east", "west electricity to the East", "west gas to the east" important hub, is the Northern Song Dynasty famous character of the Fold Saihua (She Taijun), Fold can save the hometown, the specialty is sea red fruit. On October 8, 2018, Fugu County was selected as one of the "Top 100 Counties in Comprehensive Strength". In November 2018, it was listed on the "Top 100 Happy Counties of China 2018". In March 2019, it was listed as the first batch of counties under the protection and utilization of revolutionary cultural relics. In October 2019, it was selected into the list of Top 100 Counties and cities in West China in 2019. In November 2019, it was selected into the second batch of water-saving social construction standard counties (districts). On July 29, 2020, it was selected into the list of towns (counties) reconfirmed as National Health Care in 2019.

In 2022, the GDP of Fugu County is 90.1 billion yuan, the total fiscal revenue is 25.887 billion yuan, and the general budget revenue is 6.283 billion yuan. The total industrial output was 144.817 billion yuan. The deposit balance of financial institutions was 86.15 billion yuan, the household deposit balance was 57.48 billion yuan, and the per capita deposit of households was 224,000 yuan, surpassing Qingtian County of Zhejiang Province and Shenmu City of Shanxi Province, ranking the first county in terms of per capita deposit in China for a second year.
