Guzhang County, under the Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, is located in the west of Hunan Province, central Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture. Guyang Town is the seat of the county. It reaches Baojing in the west, Yuanling in the east, Jishou and Luxi in the south, and Yongshun in the north. It covers an area of 1297 square kilometers and has jurisdiction over 7 towns. According to the seventh census, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Guzhang County was 108,798. Guzhang County has a good ecological environment, and the forest greening rate is as high as 80.46%. Guzhang County is known as the "hometown of forestry, hometown of famous tea, hometown of weightlifting, hometown of singing and dancing".

Guzhang County is the hometown of singers Song Zuying and He Jiguang. It has its own characteristics, such as the Tujia people's Maogusi dance, waving hands dance and Miao people's inspiring dance. There are world geological sites -- Guzhang Jinnail, national geological park -- Hongshi Forest, national nature reserve -- Gaowangjie, national forest park -- Sitongxia, provincial scenic spot, the largest inner lake in Northwest Hunan -- Qifeng Lake. Guzhang County has been honored as "National Demonstration County of Tea Industry Technology System Construction" and "National Key Tea Producing County".

In July 2019, it won the title of "China Natural Oxygen Bar" creation area in 2019. On February 29, 2020, the People's Government of Hunan Province agreed to remove Guzhang County from the poverty-stricken county. On January 29, 2021, it was selected into the list of regions with remarkable achievements in 2020 published by Hunan Provincial People's Government.

In 2020, the GDP of Guzhang County reached 317.286 million yuan, an increase of 0.8 percent over the previous year
