Hanyuan County, which belongs to Ya 'an City of Sichuan Province, is located in the south of the western part of Sichuan Province. Its geographical coordinates are between 102°16 '-- 103°00' east longitude and 29°05 '-- 29°43' north latitude. It is adjacent to Jinkouhe District of Leshan City and Hongya County of Meishan City in the east, Ganluo County of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture in the south, Luding County of Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and Shimian County of Ya 'an in the west, and Yingjing County of Ya 'an in the north. The territory is 71.4 kilometers long from east to west and 70.1 kilometers wide from north to south. The county covers an area of 2382 square kilometers, a subtropical monsoon humid climate, warm in winter and cool in summer, four distinct seasons. As of 2019, Hanyuan County has jurisdiction over 21 townships (5 ethnic minority townships), with Fulin Town as the county seat. According to the seventh census, Hanyuan County had a permanent population of 285,558 as of midnight on November 1, 2020.

In the fifth year of King Shen Liang of Zhou (316 BC), the State of Qin destroyed the State of Shu and established Shu Prefecture, which was under the jurisdiction of Shu Prefecture. Sui Renshou four years (604 years), in the name of Han Yuan in today's Jiuxiang Town Hanyuan County. Qing Yongzheng seven years (1729), renamed Qingxi County. In the three years of the Republic of China (1914), Qingxi County was renamed Hanyuan County because of the homonym of Qingxi County in Guizhou Province. On December 6, 2019, it was selected as a pilot unit to promote the quality improvement of farmer cooperatives in the whole county. On July 29, 2020, it was selected into the list of towns (counties) reconfirmed as National Health Care in 2019.
In 2020, the GDP of Hanyuan County rose to 11 billion yuan, reaching 11.058 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 5% and 1.2 percentage points higher than that of the whole province, ranking the second in the whole city.
