Hefeng County, under the Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture of Hubei Province, is located in the southwest of Hubei Province, the southeast of Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, and adjacent to Hunan Province. It covers an area of 2,868 square kilometers. Hefeng County is a subtropical continental monsoon humid climate, four distinct seasons, cool spring hot summer, cool autumn cold winter, rain hot season, abundant precipitation, long frost-free period. By the end of 2020, Hefeng County has a registered population of 216,668.

Hefeng County was called Tuoxi, Rongmi and Rongyang in ancient times. It was once the seat of Rongmeili. After the 13th year of Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty (1735), it was successively set up as Hefeng Prefecture and Hefeng County. On August 19, 1983, due to the establishment of Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in western Hubei, Hefeng Tujia Autonomous County was abolished, and it was still called Hefeng County and subordinate to Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in Western Hubei (renamed Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in April 1993). As of October 2021, Hefeng County has jurisdiction over 5 towns and 4 townships, and Rongmei Town is the resident of the county people's government.

Hefeng is one of the birthplace of Ba culture, is the center of the Xiang-Hubei revolutionary base during the Second Civil Revolutionary War, has been designated as a national Class A old county, national poverty alleviation and development key county, there is a national martyrs' cemetery - Manshan Red Martyrs Cemetery. On April 29, 2019, the People's Government of Hubei Province decided to remove Hefeng County from poverty. On December 9, 2019, Hefeng County was selected into the 7th batch of National Demonstration Zones for Ethnic unity and progress. In 2021, Hefeng County was selected into the national list of counties for the quality and safety of agricultural products.

In 2020, Hefeng County achieved a gross regional product of 6.491 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 4.6 percent based on comparable prices. Specifically, the added value of the primary industry was 1.516 billion yuan, up 0.5%; The added value of the secondary industry was 1.065 billion yuan, down by 10.5%; The value added of the tertiary industry was 3.91 billion yuan, down by 4.2%.
