Huaping County, subordinate to Lijiang City, Yunnan Province, is located on the north bank of the middle section of the Jinsha River in the northwest of Yunnan Province, between 26 ° 21 '- 26 ° 58' north latitude and 100 ° 59 '- 101 ° 31' east longitude. It is adjacent to Panzhihua City, Sichuan Province in the east, Chuxiong in central Yunnan in the south, and Lijiang in the west, and adjacent to Lugu Lake in Ninglang County in the north. It is an important transportation hub for western Yunnan to enter Sichuan, with a total area of 2200 square kilometers. It governs 4 towns and 4 townships, 10 communities, 51 villagers' committees, and 898 village (residential) groups. According to the data of the seventh population census, as of 0:00 on November 1, 2020, the permanent resident population of Huaping County was 159695.

Huaping County is high in the northwest and low in the southeast, with an average elevation of 1160 meters. It belongs to a typical subtropical low-heat valley climate with prominent three-dimensional distribution. It is rich in mineral resources. It is one of the 200 key coal-producing counties in China and the largest mango production county in Yunnan Province.

In December 2018, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs identified it as the second batch of agricultural products with Chinese characteristics. On October 9, 2020, it was named by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment as the fourth batch of "green waters and green mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains" practice and innovation bases.
