Jingyuan County, subordinate to Baiyin City of Gansu Province, is located in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, in the central and eastern part of Gansu Province, in the hinterland of Baiyin City, adjacent to Huining County of this city in the southeast, Yuzhong County of Lanzhou City and Baiyin District of this city in the southwest, Jingtai County of this city in the northwest, Pingchuan District of this city in the north, and Shapotou District and Haiyuan County of Zhongwei City in Ningxia in the north and east. It is 120 kilometers from east to west and 135 kilometers from north to south, with a total area of 5,809.4 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 13 towns and 5 townships.
