Jinmen County, subordinate to Quanzhou City, Fujian Province, is now under the actual control of the Taiwan authorities. It was formerly known as "Wuzhou", "Xianzhou", and so on. In the 19th year of the reign of Emperor Dezong of the Tang Dynasty (803 A.D.), it was the place of horse herding supervision. It was incorporated into the territory of Quanzhou during the Five Dynasties. In January 1915, it was officially established as a county. It is called "Jinmen" with the meaning of "as strong as gold soup and as strong as the town of Haimen".
