Kaiping City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province, is managed by Jiangmen City. On January 5, 1993, Kaiping County was abolished and Kaiping City was established. As of October 2022, Kaiping has 2 streets and 13 towns under its jurisdiction. The tourist attractions in Kaiping include Kaiping Diaolou, Liyuan, Chikan European-style Street, etc. In 2007, Kaiping Diaolou and village were officially listed in the World Heritage List by UNESCO, which is the first world cultural heritage project in Guangdong Province. Kaiping is "the hometown of Chinese blockhouses", "the hometown of Chinese folk art", "the hometown of Chinese culture and art", "the hometown of Chinese photography", "the advanced county of national cultural relics work", and "the hometown of world famous chefs".

According to the unified accounting of Jiangmen Municipal Bureau of Statistics, in 2021, Kaiping City will achieve a gross regional product (preliminary accounting) of 43.845 billion yuan, an increase of 8.3% over the previous year.
