Lipu City, a county-level city directly under the jurisdiction of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is administered by Guilin City. It is located in the northeast of Guangxi and south of Guilin City, between Liuzhou, Guilin, Wuzhou, Hezhou and Laibin. It borders Pingle County in the east, Jinxiu Yao Autonomous County and Luzhai County in the west, Mengshan County and Zhaoping County in the south, and Yongfu County and Yangshuo County in the north, with a total area of 1,758.62 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 10 towns and 3 townships.

Lipu was founded in the sixth year of the Ding Dynasty of the Han Yuan (111 BC). Lipu is the world's largest wood hanger production and export base. In 2019, at the China Daily Necessities Industry Summit Forum, Lipu enterprises successfully won the top ten enterprises of China Light Industry coat hanger industry in 2018. Lipu taro, Lipu sugar orange, Lipu horseshoe have obtained the national agricultural products Geographical indication certification, Lipu taro was rated as China famous agricultural products. Rich in tourism resources, Lipu is "Guangxi Characteristic Tourism Famous County". It has three national AAA scenic spots, namely Yinyinyan, Fengyuyan and Lijiang Bay, and three national AAA scenic spots, namely Tianhe Waterfall and Maling Guzhai.

By the end of 2021, Lipu has a permanent population of 335,000. In 2021, Lipu achieved a regional gross domestic product (GDP) of 15.945 billion yuan. By industry, the added value of the primary industry was 3.318 billion yuan, the secondary industry 4.320 billion yuan and the tertiary industry 8.307 billion yuan. The added value of the three industries accounted for 20.8%, 27.1% and 52.1% of the regional GDP respectively. Based on the permanent population, the annual per capita GDP was 47,604 yuan.

In September 2022, the State Intellectual Property Office issued a notice to determine a number of pilot demonstration counties for the construction of National intellectual property Counties and pilot demonstration parks for the construction of National intellectual Property Powers. Lipu City was selected as a pilot county for the construction of National intellectual Property Counties.
