Loufan County is under Taiyuan City of Shanxi Province. Located in the northwest of Taiyuan City, the hinterland of Luliang Mountain, the middle and upper reaches of Fenhe River, 97 kilometers away from Taiyuan, the provincial capital, between 111°31 '-- 112°02' east longitude, 37°51 '-- 38°13' north latitude. Bordering on Gujiao in the east, Fangshan in the west, Jiaocheng in the south, Jingle in the north and LAN County in the northwest, Taiyuan is a key county for poverty alleviation and development integrating mountainous areas, old areas and reservoir areas. It is also the most important water source and ecological barrier of Taiyuan. With a total area of 1289 square kilometers, Loufan County has jurisdiction over 3 towns, 4 townships, 6 neighborhood committees and 142 administrative villages.

According to the seventh census data, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Loufa County was 91,208.

On September 25, 2018, Loufan County was awarded the honorary title of "2018 E-commerce into Rural Comprehensive Demonstration County" by the Ministry of Commerce.

On April 18, 2019, the People's Government of Shanxi Province approved Loufan County to withdraw from the poverty-stricken county.
