Luntai County is located in the west of Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture in Xinjiang, the southern foot of Tianshan Mountain, and the northern edge of Tarim Basin. It is the seat of the capital of the ancient Western Regions. The 314 National Highway, the South Xinjiang Railway, and the Taklimakan Desert Highway are connected with the county. 187 kilometers from Korla and 360 kilometers from Urumqi in a straight line.
