Menyuan Hui Autonomous County, located in the northeast of Qinghai Province, China, is under the jurisdiction of Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, in the east of Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, east and north adjacent to Gansu Province. It is 150 kilometers away from the provincial capital Xining and 250 kilometers away from Haibei Prefecture resident Haiyan County. The total area of jurisdiction is 6902.26 square kilometers. By the end of 2019, Menyuan Hui Autonomous County had a registered population of 162,271. The majority of the ethnic groups are Hui, accounting for about 40% of the total population. There are also Han, Tibetan, Turkish, Mongolian, Salah and other ethnic groups.
MenYuan county, formerly known as "Men source" (Men, men), because of the word "Men" is too complicated to write, after unified simplified as homophone "door". In 1929, Menyuan County was established; in 1953, Menyuan Hui Autonomous Region was established; and in 1955, Menyuan Hui Autonomous County was renamed. On November 30, 2015, it was listed as the second batch of national comprehensive pilot areas for new urbanization. In December 2017, the State Ethnic Affairs Commission named the fifth batch of national demonstration zones for ethnic unity and progress. On May 15, 2019, the government of Qinghai Province announced that 12 counties (cities), including Menyuan Hui Autonomous County, were removed from the poverty-stricken counties list.
In 2019, the GDP of Menyuan Hui Autonomous County reached 3.374 billion yuan, up 3.8 percent year on year.
