Mutual aid Tu Autonomous County, Haidong City, Qinghai Province. It is located in the eastern part of Qinghai Province and the north of Haidong City, bordering Daban Mountain of Qilian Mountains to the north, bordering Menyuan Hui Autonomous County of Haibei Prefecture, bordering Tianzhu Tibetan Autonomous County and Yongdeng County of Gansu Province to the northeast, bordering Ledu District of Municipal Government to the southeast, bounded by Huangshui to the south, facing Ping 'an District, bordering Datong County of Xining City to the west, and connecting with Chengdong District and Chengbei District of Xining City to the southwest. The county is about 64 kilometers wide from north to south and 86 kilometers long from east to west, with a total area of 3424 square kilometers. There are no lakes in the county, and there are 8 natural rivers of large and small size, all belonging to the Yellow River basin and Huangshui water system, with a total length of 2,895 kilometers. The Qingshi Ridge of Daban Mountains runs through the whole territory from northwest to southeast, naturally dividing the county into two topographic units. The Tuhu Autonomous County has jurisdiction over 1 subdistrict, 7 towns, 9 townships and 2 ethnic townships. By the end of 2019, the registered population of the county was 438,067, making it the only Tuhu autonomous county in China. It is home to the largest and most concentrated ethnic groups in the county.
In October 2018, it was awarded as a pilot area for the integrated development of the primary, secondary and tertiary industries in the country. On December 29, 2018, the State Ethnic Affairs Commission named the sixth batch of national Ethnic unity and progress demonstration zone (unit). On May 15, 2019, the People's Government of Qinghai Province approved the removal of the Tujia Autonomous County from the poverty-stricken county list. On December 6, 2019, it was selected as a pilot unit to promote the quality improvement of farmer cooperatives in the whole county. On July 29, 2020, it was selected into the national Health township (county) naming list for the 2017-2019 cycle.
In 2020, the GDP of Huzhu Tu Autonomous County reached 11.8 billion yuan, an increase of 4.7 percent.
