Wugang City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Hunan Province, under the administration of Shaoyang City, is located in the southwest of Hunan Province, the eastern foot of Xuefeng Mountain, the north edge of Nanling, the upstream of Zishui, with a total area of 1549 square kilometers. The city is surrounded by mountains on three sides in the east, west and south, and is low in the center, sloping from south to north. It has a mild climate in the subtropical monsoon. As of 2021, Wugang Municipality has jurisdiction over 4 subdistricts, 11 towns and 3 townships. According to the seventh census, the permanent population of Wugang was 640,181 as of midnight on November 1, 2020.
As early as more than 5,000 years ago in the Neolithic Age, there were ancestors here to multiply and live. Since Emperor Gaofu of Han Dynasty "made the world a county, a city and a city", Wugang has a history of more than 2,200 years of city construction. In 2021, Wugang achieved a GDP of 1,858,035 million yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 8.7% after deducting non-comparable factors. The added value of primary, secondary and tertiary industries was 592.682 million yuan, 444.138 million yuan and 821.15 million yuan respectively, up 8.7%, 9.2% and 8.3% year on year respectively. The tertiary industrial structure was adjusted to 31.9:23.9:44.2 from 33.7:22.4:43.9 in the previous year.
