Xiji County, under the Guyuan City of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, is located in the south of Ningxia, the west foot of Liupan Mountain. Between 105°20' -- 106°04' east longitude and 35°35' -- 36°14' north latitude. It is 67 kilometers long from east to west, 74 kilometers wide from north to south, 63 kilometers away from Guyuan City in the east and 391 kilometers away from Yinchuan City in Ningxia in the north, with a total area of 3130 square kilometers. As of November 2020, Xiji County has jurisdiction over 4 towns and 15 townships. According to the results of the seventh national census, the permanent resident population is 315,827 people. The county government is based in Jiqiang Town.

Xiji County was established on October 10, 1942, the 31st year of the Republic of China. It is the largest county in Ningxia with the largest population, inhabited by ethnic minorities, and the key county of poverty alleviation by the state and the autonomous region. In 2021, the GDP of Xiji County reached 8.069 billion yuan, the added value of the primary industry was 2.074 billion yuan, the added value of the secondary industry was 1.131 billion yuan, and the added value of the tertiary industry was 4.864 billion yuan. Based on the permanent population, the per capita GDP was 25,453 yuan, an increase of 4.0 percent over the previous year.
