Yongcheng, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Henan Province, is managed by Shangqiu City. Henan Province directly governs county-level cities. Located in the east of Henan Province, Yongcheng is a regional central city at the junction of Henan, Shandong, Jiangsu and Anhui provinces. In 2014, it became a county directly under the jurisdiction of Henan Province. In 2016, it was planned to be a sub central city in Shangqiu City in Henan Province. On October 8, 2019, it was rated as one of the top 100 counties and cities with national comprehensive strength in 2019, one of the top 100 counties and cities with national investment potential, one of the top 100 counties and cities with national new urbanization quality, and one of the top 100 counties and cities with national business environment in 2019. In August 2020, it was approved to become a regional logistics hub in Henan Province.
Yongcheng is adjacent to Longhai in the north, Beijing Shanghai in the east, and Beijing Kowloon in the west. Lianhuo Expressway, Yongdeng Expressway, Jiqi Expressway, Zhengzhou Xuzhou High speed Railway, National Highway 311 and Zhengyong Provincial Highway run through the whole territory.
