Six thousand years ago, the Yan Emperor Zhu Xiang's family founded the capital and buried it in Zhecheng, where the Zhu surname originated. In June of the third year of the Republic of China (1914), Zhecheng belonged to Kaifeng Road, Henan Province. After liberation in 1949, Zhecheng belonged to Shangqiu District of Henan Province. In 1997, a prefecture level Shangqiu City was established, and Zhecheng belongs to Shangqiu City.
