Zhenxiong is located in the northeast of Yunnan Province, at the junction of Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan provinces, under the jurisdiction of Zhaotong City, Yunnan Province. The ground spans 104 ° 18 ′ to 105 ° 19 ′ E and 27 ° 17 ′ to 27 ° 50 ′ N. It is bounded by the Chishui River in the east and adjacent to Xuyong, Sichuan, Bijie and Hezhang in Guizhou in the south, Yiliang in the west and Weixin in the north. In June 2022, according to the official website of Zhenxiong County People's Government, Zhenxiong County, with a total population of 1.71 million, is the most populous county in Yunnan Province.

The county is located in Delong Village, Potou Town, which is the place of "Jiming Three Provinces". The county is 99 kilometers from the east to the west and 54 kilometers from the south to the north, covering a total area of 3696 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 254 villages (communities) and 5283 village (residential) groups in 30 towns (streets), including 17 ethnic minorities such as Yi, Miao, Bai and Hui. Wufeng Sub-district Office, Nantai Sub-district Office and Jiufu Sub-district Office in the county seat.

The county is rich in natural resources. Historically, it has enjoyed the reputation of "Jintengyue and Yinzhenxiong" together with Tengchong in western Yunnan, known as "Jiming three provinces", and is the birthplace of the Chishui River, which enjoys the reputation of "mother river" and "wine river".

In 2020, the GDP of Zhenxiong County will reach 21.782 billion yuan, the local general public budget revenue will reach 882 million yuan, the total retail sales of consumer goods will reach 9.88 billion yuan, the per capita disposable income of urban permanent residents will reach 28901 yuan, and the per capita disposable income of rural permanent residents will reach 11490 yuan.

In August 2021, it was selected as the national key county for rural revitalization.
