Zhongning County, under the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region of Zhongwei City. It is located in the central part of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and the southern end of Ningxia Plain, bordering Wuzhong City and Qingtongxia City in the east and northeast respectively, connecting with Tongxin County in the south, Zhongwei City in the west and Alxa Left Banner in Inner Mongolia in the north, with a total area of 3369.58 square kilometers. As of midnight on November 1, 2020, Zhongning County has a permanent population of 33400. As of 2020, Zhongning County has jurisdiction over 6 towns and 6 townships.

In the twenty-second year of the Republic of China (1933), Zhongwei County set up Zhongning County in the east of Guanshan River Bridge. In 2004, Zhongwei City was set up and Zhongning County was assigned to Zhongwei City. Is the origin of the world wolfberry and authentic origin, in 1961 was named by the Ministry of Agriculture China wolfberry production base county, in 1995, was named by The State Council "China wolfberry township".

In 2021, the local GDP of Zhongning County reached 17.4 billion yuan, the local general public budget revenue was 868 million yuan, the total retail sales of social consumer goods was 4.36 billion yuan, and the per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents was 32,206 yuan and 15,700 yuan, up by 6.9% and 11.5%, respectively.
