Zuoyun County belongs to Datong City of Shanxi Province. Zuoyun County is located in the Saibei Plateau, bordering Datong in the east, Youyu in the west, Shuozhou in the south, overlooking Hushi in the north, between 39°44 '-40 °15' north, 112°34 '-112 °59' east, with a total area of 1294 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 3 towns and 5 townships.

Baiyang grazing land, the Warring States period is the state of Zhao Wuzhou Seldi, Han Dynasty changed to Hengzhou, the Yuan Dynasty for Datong dependency. In the fourth year of Hongwu of the Ming Dynasty (1371), Datong Capital Wei was set up, and four years later, it was renamed Xingdu Department of Shanxi Province. It had jurisdiction over 26 sanitary institutes, which spanned the Yellow River and Yanshan from east to west. In the third year of Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty (1725), a county was set up.
