Ezhou, formerly known as Wudu and ancient Wuchang, is a prefectural city under the jurisdiction of Hubei Province. It is located in the eastern part of Hubei Province, bordering Wuhan City in the west, Huangshi City in the southeast, the Yangtze River in the north, and Wuhan City and Huanggang City in the east across the river from the west, with a total area of 1596 square kilometers. Ezhou is a subtropical monsoon climate zone, with an average temperature of 17℃. As of October 2022, Ezhou has jurisdiction over 3 districts. Ezhou City people's government resident Echeng District. By the end of 2021, the resident population of Ezhou was 1,069,700.

Ezhou was the "Kingdom of Fan" in Emperor Yao, the "State of E" in Summer, the "State of E" in Yin Shang, and the "fief of King E of Chu" in the Spring and Autumn and the Warring States Periods. Sun Quan proclaimed himself emperor here in The Three Kingdoms Period. On May 14, 1949, Echeng was liberated. In 1983, Ezhou City and Echeng County were abolished, and Huangzhou Town of Huanggang County was merged into Ezhou City, which was under the jurisdiction of Hubei Province. With convenient transportation, Ezhou has formed a transportation network consisting of highway, railway, air and water transportation. In 1992, Ezhou became sister cities with three cities in Japan, Abenggunu in Cote d 'Ivoire in Africa, and Waiala in Australia. In 2021, the GDP of Ezhou reached 116.23 billion yuan, and the per capita disposable income of permanent urban residents was 38,317 yuan.
