Neijiang, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Sichuan Province, is located in the southeast of Sichuan Basin, the middle part of the lower Tuojiang River, East Han Jian County, once known as Han 'an; Neijiang is located in the center of Chengdu and Chongqing, one of the national key transportation hubs, an important interchange point of "The Belt and Road", the second largest transportation hub in Sichuan and the southwest land transportation junction. In 2020, Neijiang will enter the "Double Hundred City", and in 2021, it will enter the "Double high-speed Railway" era, becoming the only city in Sichuan and Chongqing to enter the "half-hour high-speed railway circle" of Chengdu and Chongqing at the same time. City eighth Party Congress put forward the "construction of Chengdu-Chongqing development spindle central city" development goals. The Second Plenary Session of the 12th Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China explicitly supports the construction of Neijiang as a "major industrial city and regional logistics hub for Chengdu-Chongqing development".

The Neijiang River boasts beautiful scenery and numerous places of interest, including Longchang ancient archway Group known as "three-dimensional history book", Holy Water Temple known as "the first Zen forest in Sichuan", Xilin Temple, Stone Carvings on cliffs of Chonglongshan Mountain, Thousand-hand Avalokitesvara in Donglin Temple, Zizhong Temple of Literature, the first of the "Four cultural Temples of Bashu", Zizhong Wu Temple built in Ming Dynasty, As well as the Weiyuan Vault landform, the karst wonder Holy Ghost Mountain Karst Cave, the nine and eighteen curved Sweet City Lake, bird watching base Guyu Lake and other cultural and natural landscapes; Neijiang is the hometown of Chang Daqian, master of Chinese painting Honghe Chang of Confucius. Neijiang ten virtuous people, is the outstanding representative of Neijiang historical figures, Chang Hong (Kong Zi's teacher), Zhao Xiong (anti Jin name), Zhao Zhenji (Wen Yuan Ge old), Fan Chongkai (Bashu Shape Kui), Zhao Kui (Tianzi's disciple), Luo Chengxiang (Qing Dynasty champion), Zhang Xuetong Zui (a generation of eminent monks), Yu Peilun (Xinhai heroes), Zhang Daqian (traditional Chinese painting master), Fan Changjiang (news magnate).
By the end of 2021, Neijiang has a registered population of 4.028 million.
In 2022, Neijiang Municipal Bureau of Statistics realized the GDP of the region was 165.695 billion yuan, and the total volume of foreign trade was 3.981 billion yuan, an increase of 34.5% over the previous year. Exports reached 3.517 billion yuan and imports reached 464 million yuan.
