Quzhou, a prefecture level city under the jurisdiction of Zhejiang Province, is located in the Yangtze River Delta region, the west of Zhejiang Province, the upper reaches of Qiantang River, and the west end of Jinhua-Quzhou basin. Its geographical coordinates are located at 118°01 '-119 °20' east longitude and 28°14 '-29 °30' north latitude. The city covers an area of 8,844 square kilometers. Quzhou is connected to Nanping in Fujian Province in the south, Shangrao and Jingdezhen in Jiangxi province in the west, Huangshan in Anhui province in the north, and Jinhua, Lishui and Hangzhou in the east. Quzhou is known as "a thoroughfare of four provinces and the head of five roads". It has jurisdiction over Kecheng District, Qujiang District, Jiangshan City, Longyou County, Changshan County and Kaihua County. According to the seventh census data, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Quzhou is 2,276,200.

With the city brand of "Holy Land of South Hole · Polite of Quzhou", Quzhou is a famous national historical and cultural city, a city with beautiful ecological landscapes, an open atmosphere and innovative vitality. In November 2016, it won the honorary title of "National Top Ten Ecological Leisure Tourism Cities". In 2017, it ranked 49th in the overall well-off index of prefecture-level cities in China; In December, it entered the top 200 charming cities with Chinese characteristics. In 2018, Quzhou was named "International Garden City" by the United Nations. In 2019, Quzhou ranked fourth among 22 cities in the first business environment test organized by the National Development and Reform Commission.

In the 2019 annual assessment of the National Civilized City, it was ranked the fourth among prefecture-level cities in China with a total score of 96.27. Quzhou is the national green finance reform and innovation pilot zone, the Qianjiangyuan National Park system pilot, the national business environment evaluation pilot, the national "multi-plan integration" pilot, the national tourism demonstration zone establishment pilot, and the first batch of national practice and innovation bases of "clear waters and lush mountains are gold and silver mountains". In October 2021, it was rated as the third batch of social credit system construction demonstration zone.

In 2021, Quzhou achieved a regional GDP of 187.561 billion yuan, an increase of 8.7% over 2020.
