Shenzhen, referred to as "Shenzhen", also known as Pengcheng, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province, a sub-provincial city, a city specifically designated in the state plan, a megacity, and a special economic zone of China, a national economic center city, an international city, a scientific and technological innovation center, a regional financial center, and a commercial and trade logistics center approved by the State Council. The earliest predecessor of Shenzhen was Bao'an County, the capital of Guangzhou, with the name of local Hakka culture and Lingnan culture. Shenzhen was first recorded in history in the eighth year of Yongle in the Ming Dynasty (1410). In 1979, Shenzhen was founded. In 1980, it became the first special economic zone established in China, the window of China's reform and opening up and the emerging immigrant city, creating a world-famous "Shenzhen speed", known as "China's Silicon Valley". In 2021, Shenzhen ranked third in the list of China's top 100 cities released by the Wharton Economic Research Institute.
