Shihezi, a county-level city directly under the Central Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and the eighth division of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps implement the division and city integration management system, which is managed by Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. It is located in the middle section of the northern foot of Tianshan Mountains, in the south of Junggar Basin, with a total area of 6007 square kilometers, and 150 kilometers away from Urumqi, the capital of the autonomous region in the east. By 2019, Shihezi had a population of 659000.
Shihezi was once the headquarters of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and later moved to Urumqi. In June 2017, Shihezi was named the National Health City. In the same year, Shihezi reviewed and confirmed that it would continue to retain the honorary title of National Civilized City. In November 2018, it was selected into the 2018 National "Happy 100 Counties List" and ranked among the top 100 in China's urban comprehensive well-off index. On August 13, 2019, it was selected as the pilot city for the construction of the national urban medical consortium. In October 2020, it was rated as a national model city (county) for mutual support.
In 2021, Shihezi will achieve a GDP of 75.56 billion yuan, an increase of 11.4%. The investment in fixed assets was 22.85 billion yuan, an increase of 12.2%, the total retail sales of consumer goods increased by 20.7%, and the general public budget revenue was 4.95 billion yuan, an increase of 27.8%. In 2022, Shihezi is expected to achieve a GDP of 87 billion yuan, an increase of 5.4%. Among them, the added value of industry is 44 billion yuan, accounting for half of the Bingtuan industry. The total investment in fixed assets was 24 billion yuan and the total retail sales of consumer goods was 13.2 billion yuan.
