Songyuan, a prefecture level city under the jurisdiction of Jilin Province, is located in the central and western part of Jilin Province, in the triangle of Harbin, Changchun and Daqing, at the southern end of Songnen Plain, by the beautiful Songhua River, bordering Changchun and Siping cities in the south, Baicheng City and Tongliao City of Inner Mongolia in the west, and facing Daqing City of Heilongjiang Province across the Songhua River in the north. Together with Baotou, Hohhot and Ordos, it is known as the four economic growth Dragons of Northern China. As of November 1, 2020, Songyuan has a permanent population of 2,252,994.
