Tongling, abbreviated as "Copper", also known as Tongdu in ancient times as Dingling and Yi 'an, is a prefectural-level city under the jurisdiction of Anhui Province. It is a city in the central region of the Yangtze River Delta, located in East China, central and southern Anhui Province, the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, with Hefei in the north, Chizhou in the south, Wuhu in the east and Anqing in the west. The city is between 117°04 '-- 118°09' east longitude and 30°38 '-- 31°09' north latitude. It belongs to the north subtropical humid monsoon climate. The total area of the city is 2991.87 square kilometers, with jurisdiction over 3 districts and 1 county.

Tongling, named and prosperous for copper, is known as "China's ancient copper capital and contemporary copper base". The history of copper mining began in the Shang and Zhou Dynasties, flourished in the Han and Tang Dynasties, and lasted more than 3500 years. The first furnace of copper water and the first copper ingot of New China came from Tongling, the first copper industrial base was built in Tongling, the first copper stock came from Tongling, and the first 100 billion yuan enterprise in Anhui Province came from Tongling. Tongling is located at the "cross" intersection of the national east-west and Anhui north-south traffic arteries. Beijing-fuzhou high-speed railway and Ningan high-speed railway, Beijing-Taiwan high-speed and Shanghai-Chongqing high-speed intersect here, with 142.6 kilometers of Yangtze River coastline. Tongling Port within the territory is a national first-class open port, the first national direct flight port to Taiwan and the destination port of 10,000-ton sea ships entering the river. Tongling is an important node city in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, a central city in the central South of Anhui, a demonstration city in the southern Anhui international tourism culture zone, and a demonstration city in the Wanjiang City Belt to undertake industrial transfer.

By the end of 2021, Tongling has a permanent resident population of 1.306 million, with an urbanization rate of 66.3%. In 2021, Tongling achieved a gross regional product of 116.56 billion yuan. The added value of the primary industry is 5.92 billion yuan, the secondary industry is 57.71 billion yuan, and the tertiary industry is 52.93 billion yuan. The structure of the three industries is 5.1:49.5:45.4. Based on the permanent population, the per capita GDP was 89,112 yuan.
