Yingkou, a prefecture level city under the jurisdiction of Liaoning Province, is an important port city in the coastal economic zone of Liaoning Province. It is located in the south of Northeast China, the center of Liaodong Peninsula, the east coast of the Bohai Sea, and the mouth of the Daliao River. By 2021, Yingkou will have jurisdiction over 4 municipal districts and 2 county-level cities, with a total area of 5427 square kilometers. By the end of 2021, the permanent population of Yingkou City is 2.312 million.
Yingkou is one of the birthplaces of human civilization. The Jinniu Mountain ancient human site about 280000 years ago witnessed the earliest civilization in the Liaohe River basin. Yingkou is the only city in Chinese Mainland where the setting sun falls into the sea. Yingkou is also the first port opened to the outside world in China's modern history. It is also the birthplace and one of the distribution places of Dragon stamps, the birthplace of the Red Cross Movement in China and the birthplace of China's national financial industry.
Yingkou is an excellent tourist city, a national forest city, and one of the four major musical instrument production bases in China. In July 2019, Yingkou won the title of "China's (regional) city with the most investment and business value". In October 2020, it was awarded the National Model City for Double Support.
In 2021, Yingkou will achieve a GDP of 140.32 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2% at comparable prices.
