Yueyang, known as "Baling" in ancient times, also known as "Yuezhou", is a prefectures level city of Hunan Province, deputy central city of the province, the second largest economy, the first batch of open cities along the Yangtze River by The State Council, an important regional central city in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, a big city of Hunan Province, and a Free Trade zone of Hunan Province. The city began in 505 BC, because the original county is located in the south of the Tianyue Mufu mountain named, is a cultural city with a long history of more than 2500 years. Located in the northeast of Hunan Province, north of the Yangtze River, south of Sanxiang four rivers, embrace Dongting, rivers and lakes intersection, administrative area of 14,858 square kilometers. According to the seventh census, Yueyang City has a permanent population of 5,051,900.

Yueyang is very convenient in transportation, with the Yangtze River, Beijing-Guangzhou Railway, Haoji Railway, Beijing-Guangzhou high-speed Railway, Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway, Hangzhou-Rui Expressway and other national traffic arteries interwoven into a network in the city. In July 2020, Yueyang City was confirmed as a national sanitary city by the National Committee of the Patriotic Health.

In 2021, the GDP of Yueyang City reached 440.298 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 8.1%.
