Yushu City is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Jilin Province, administered by Changchun City, located in the hinterland of Songliao Plain, in the center of the triangle composed of Changchun, Jilin and Harbin. There are no mountains within the territory, the terrain is relatively flat, slightly wavy ups and downs. The terrain is high in the southeast, low in the northwest, and inclined to the northwest in the southeast. It belongs to the temperate continental monsoon climate zone. The climate is affected by the monsoon and the four seasons are distinct. The total area is 4712 square kilometers. According to the seventh census data, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Yushu was 836,098.

In November 2018, it was selected into the list of China's Top 100 Happy Counties in 2018.

In 2019, Yushu's GDP reached 22.61 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 2%; The investment in fixed assets reached 4.5 billion yuan, up 15% year on year; The total industrial output value reached 6.2 billion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 6.3%; Total and local government revenue reached 1.219 billion yuan and 667 million yuan respectively, up 6.1% and 5% year on year respectively.
