Cheng'an County was built in the Spring and Autumn Period and named after the Northern Qi Dynasty. In the Three Character Classic, Dai De and Dai Sheng, the great Confucian scholars of the Western Han Dynasty, were born in Cheng'an; In the Sui Dynasty, Huike, the second generation founder of the Mahayana Zen and the first person of the Chinese Zen Buddhism, had been preaching scriptures in Cheng'an for a long time and died here, leaving behind such holy sites as the Second Ancestral Temple, Kuang Jiao Temple and the Second Ancestral Tower.
