Wei County, subordinate to Xingtai City, Hebei Province, is located in the south of Hebei Province and the eastern plain of Xingtai City, with a temperate monsoon climate. It covers a total area of 1012 square kilometers. As of May 2022, it has jurisdiction over 12 towns, 4 townships and 522 administrative villages. The county government is located in Mingzhou Town. As of October 2022, the total registered residence population of Weixian County is 648100.
Weixian County has a long history. It is said that Guns built dikes to prevent floods here. There are still "Gun Dike" sites in Weixian County. In the late Western Han Dynasty, Guangzong was established. In the Yuan Dynasty, Wei County was once the seat of Weizhou Prefecture. In the second year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1369), the prefecture was reduced to a county, which was called Weixian County. The name has been used since then. In 1993, Weixian County was changed to Xingtai City. Weixian is an old revolutionary base area. During the War of Resistance against Japan and the War of Liberation, the Party, political and military organs of southern Hebei once stationed in Weixian for seven years. The older generation of proletarian revolutionaries, such as Deng Xiaoping, Liu Bocheng, Xu Qianfeng, Song Renqiong, have all fought and lived in Weixian. There are revolutionary sites in Weixian, such as the Jinan District Party Committee, the Executive Office, the 129 Division Headquarters, the Jinan Newspaper, the Jinan Bookstore, and the Hongji Hospital. Wei County is a national garden county, a national health county, and a pilot county for comprehensive reform in Hebei Province. In 2018, the People's Government of Hebei Province approved Weixian County to withdraw from the poverty county sequence.
In 2021, Weixian County will achieve a GDP of 12.237 billion yuan, a per capita GDP of 30936 yuan, and a public budget revenue of 771.56 million yuan.
