Jinzhong, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Shanxi Province, is located in the central part of Shanxi Province, bordering Taihang Mountain to the east, Fenhe River to the west, Taiyuan City to the north, Changzhi City and Linfen City to the south, Yangquan City to the northeast, and Luliang City to the southwest. Jinzhong has jurisdiction over 2 municipal districts, 8 counties and 1 county-level city with a total area of 16400 square kilometers. By the end of 2021, Jinzhong has a permanent population of 3,389,953.

Jinzhong is a national experimental area for cultural and ecological protection. It has a long history and culture. As early as millions of years ago, there were human reproduction and living, and there are more than 100 cultural sites of the Stone Age.
