Tunliu District, belonging to Changzhi City of Shanxi Province, is located in the southeast of Shanxi Province, on the west side of Shangdang Basin, between 36°13 '~36°30' north latitude, 112°28 '~113°03' east longitude. The terrain is high in the northwest and low in the southeast. The whole north - south width 25 kilometers, east - west length 60 kilometers, a total area of 1142 square kilometers. As of 2019, Tunliu District has jurisdiction over 1 subdistrict, 6 towns, 3 townships, 3 development zones and 1 industrial park. The district government is based in Linjiang Subdistrict. Tunliu District has a long history. It has been established as a county for more than 2,300 years since the Western Han Dynasty. In November 2018, it was renamed as a district. Tunliu District has been known as "the key place of ancient Han" and "Thoroughgoing of Three Jin Dynasties" since ancient times. Changtai, Changhan, Changlin Expressway and 208 and 309 national roads run through the whole territory. Tunliu area belongs to the Loess Plateau continental warm belt climate zone, with four distinct seasons, strong monsoon, long winter and short summer characteristics.

Tunliu Area has historical legends such as "Houyi shoots the Sun", "Zhang Liangde's Book of War" and other intangible cultural heritages such as "Tunliu Daoqing" and "Googly Guy". It is the hometown of Chinese folk culture and art.
