Beipiao City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Liaoning Province, is managed by Chaoyang City. It is located in the west of Liaoning Province and the northeast of Chaoyang City. It borders Fuxin Mongolian Autonomous County to the east, Chaoyang County, Shuangta District and Longcheng District to the west and southwest, Linghai City and Yixian County to the south and southeast, and Naiman Banner and Aohan Banner of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to the north and northwest, with a total area of 4418.74 square kilometers. Beipiao City, formerly known as "Chuanzhou", was found with coal seams in Xiaozhalanying, Xinglonggou, Duomutu Erai (today's Wugong Village) and Dalianggangzi (today's Heshanggou) in the 33rd year of Guangxu's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1907). Since the four places are all north of Chaoyang, they are called Beisipiao (Beipiao for short). In 1940, the northern part of Chaoyang County was set aside and another Tumet Middle Banner was set up (today's Beipiao City). In 1945, Beipiao County was established. In 1985, Beipiao County was abolished and Beipiao City (county-level city) was established.
