Suihua, a prefecture level city under the jurisdiction of Heilongjiang Province, means "safe, smooth and auspicious" in Manchu language. Suihua is located in the central part of Heilongjiang Province, in the Hulan River basin of Songnen Plain, with Lincapital Yichun to the east, provincial capital Harbin to the south, oil city Daqing to the west, Heihe port to the north and Qiqihar City to the northwest. Suihua was established in 1885 and was set up as a city in December 1999. It covers an area of 35,000 square kilometers and has jurisdiction over three cities, six counties and one district. According to the seventh census data, Suihua has a permanent population of 3,756,167 as of midnight on November 1, 2020.

In 2020, the regional GDP of Suihua reached 115.02 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 2%.
