Wujiang District (Wujiang City), subordinate to Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, is located in the southeast of Jiangsu Province, bordering Shanghai in the east, Taihu Lake in the west, Zhejiang in the south, and the main urban area of Suzhou in the north. The total area of the district is 1176 square kilometers, including 26700 hectares of water area, accounting for 22.70% of the total area of the city (excluding the water surface of the Taihu Lake under its jurisdiction). As of June 2019, Wujiang District has 4 streets and 7 towns under its jurisdiction. According to the data of the seventh national population census, as of 0:00 on November 1, 2020, the permanent resident population of Wujiang District was 1545023, accounting for 12.12% of Suzhou.

In 909 AD, Wujiang County was established; In 1992, Wujiang was withdrawn from the county and established as a city; On September 1, 2012, Wujiang was withdrawn from the city and set up as a district. Wujiang is located in the south of the Yangtze River, with well-developed river and lake systems, crisscrossed rivers and dotted lakes. It is known as "the land of fish and rice" and "the house of silk". Wujiang has a northern subtropical monsoon marine climate with four distinct seasons throughout the year, mild climate and abundant rainfall.

Wujiang has a long history and culture. It has nurtured and formed a number of distinctive cultural resources, such as sericulture and silk culture, water town culture, millennium canal culture, water bass poetry culture, traditional Chinese culture and Jiangcun culture of enriching people. It has more than 140 famous historical figures, including Fan Li in the Spring and Autumn Period, Lu Guimeng, a writer of the Tang Dynasty, Wang Xizhan, an astronomer of the Qing Dynasty, Chen Qubing, a famous figure in the 1911 Revolution, Liu Yazi, a patriotic poet, and Fei Xiaotong, a sociologist.

In 2020, the gross regional product of Wujiang District will reach 20.283 billion yuan, an increase of 0.6% over the same period last year at comparable prices. In August 2021, the white paper on high-quality economic development in urban areas of China and the Top 100 CCID districts in 2021 were released, and Wujiang District ranked 10th.
