Wuyishan City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Fujian Province, is managed by Nanping City. It is located in the northwest of Fujian Province, connecting Pucheng in the east, Jianyang in the south, Guangze in the west, and Qianshan County in Jiangxi Province in the north. Wuyishan has a long history. According to archaeological data, there were ancestors living in the area nearly 4000 years ago. Formerly known as Chong'an County, it was founded in the fifth year of Chunhua in the Northern Song Dynasty (994). On March 1, 1985, Chong'an County was approved by the State Council as the first batch of counties and cities open to the outside world in China. In August 1989, the State Council approved the withdrawal of the county and the establishment of a city. In December 2018, it won the title of the second batch of national ecological civilization construction demonstration cities and counties. In March 2019, it was listed in the first batch of districts and counties for the protection and utilization of revolutionary cultural relics. In September 2019, it was selected into the first batch of national all-region tourism demonstration zones.
