Changting County, formerly known as "Tingzhou", is under the jurisdiction of Fujian Province. It is the location of Tingzhou City in the Central Soviet Region and the place where the red flag leaps over the Tingjiang River. It is located in the west of Fujian Province, at the southern foot of the Wuyi Mountains, adjacent to Guangdong in the south and Jiangxi in the west, with a land area of 3104.16 square kilometers; Since ancient times, it has been the frontier of Fujian, Guangdong and Jiangxi provinces, and is known as the "West Gate of Fujian Province".

Changting, known as Tingzhou in the calendar, was established as a county in the Han Dynasty. Since the establishment of Tingzhou in the 24th year of the Kaiyuan era of the Tang Dynasty, it has become one of the five major prefectures, seven prefectures and eight prefectures of Fujian. Since the prosperous Tang Dynasty, Changting has been the seat of the state, county, road and government, and the scientific and educational cultural center of the "Hakka Culture (West Fujian) Ecological Protection Experimental Zone".

Changting, also known as Tingzhou Prefecture, is the first government-run city inhabited by Hakka people, and is known as the "World Hakka Capital". Changting is also the third batch of national historical and cultural cities approved by the State Council (1994), and the first Hakka cuisine town in China (2004) issued by the Chinese Cuisine Association, enjoying the titles of "Fujian cuisine city", "hometown of the Red Army", and "Little Red Shanghai".

Changting is known as "the most beautiful mountain city in China" because it integrates cultural landscape and natural landscape. In 2012, it was awarded the title of "China's top ten ancient cities and towns with the most cultural heritage". Changting has become the first batch of "green water and green mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains" practice and innovation bases in China, the first batch of national ecological civilization construction demonstration cities (counties), and the only county (city) in Fujian Province that has won the two titles (licensing) at the same time. In March 2018, it became the first batch of cities to pass the national water ecological civilization construction pilot acceptance. In March 2019, it was listed as the first batch of revolutionary cultural relics protection and utilization areas and counties.
